Well cough up an answer...I really liked it when I was a kid but now I watch it with my son and wonder what I was thinking back then...I guess that the toys were too cool to care about how corny the original show was...

Yes, I do. It's silly, insane, had nice animation... And yes, the toys WERE cool. (Had quite a few of those. And two metal special-edition Grimlock and that Stegosaur-Dinobot).
The Movie was great.
But from what i've heard, after the movie, the series became obsessed with the Autobot matrix.

They still are obsessed with the Matrix in many of the shows...So far there has been no reference to the Matrix in the armada series though...OP does have the Matrix in his chest when the toy is in robot mode...

I seem to remember reading a LoTR/Transformers G1 fanfic turning the Matrix into the equivalent of the Ring... ROFL. Oh well, as long as they don't make a G1/The Matrix crossover. O_O That would be strange.
The reason it seems so corny now is because it's an 80s cartoon. And quite frankly, those always seem corny after a while. But I still like them! Well, I used to. They don't air anywhere anymore. (I know some of them... Thundercats/Silverhawks, mainly, used to be aired on Cartoon Network, but we get the british CN here, so we don't get those... OR the newer Transformers shows here. (Not to mention any anime. I want to see Zoids Chaotic Century, dammit. )
Oh yeah - I spotted a continuity problem in G1. The episode that gave the Aerialbots and Superion (or whatever their fused form was called) their first appearance also had the Commandicons and Bruticus, their fused form, in it - But how can this be, if the Commandicons would only be created MUCH later, in the episode "Starscream's Brigade"? I guess they had a bit of an error in airing the episodes. Either that or the Commandicons went back in time.
Ah well, I liked it anyway. ^_^
